WARNING: In the interest of serving you better, these instructions have recently been revamped and are currently being tested for errors. Please let us know if you have any issues or suggestions.

Below are instructions for downloading a Windows program called PCDJTools LT. With it, you can sort through our entire song catalog and create your own song list which we load into our DJ software at your event. Armed with your selections we can better serve up a mix of songs that you and your guests will enjoy.

What should I do with PCDJTools LT once I get it on my PC?

Take a look at our list now, get to know the software and come back later to build your waitlist since we add songs all the time. 2 months before your event is good time to download the most recent list.

Do I really need to spend all this time installing the software and picking songs?

Sure, you could send us a simple email of your favorite songs if all this sounds overwhelming, but we prefer that you build a "waitlist" with PCDJTools LT. Your picks will load directly into our DJ software enabling us to mix from three sources: your waitlist, guest requests and our intuition. If you prefer a simpler way, you can leave the selections to us with a bit of guidance like "play danceable music from the 60s-80s, avoid Rap and Metal" or "play big band, 50s and Motown for the older folks and current dance and hip hop for our friends".

WARNING! to those who wish to go further:

You MUST follow our instructions! (Most every support call we get is from someone who decided to wing it without the instructions.) Simply add this page to your favorites and refer to it at every step all the way to the moment you email your list back to us.

Who decides on the order of the songs?

Unless you plan on standing right next to us at your event, it is better left to the DJ. So many variables enter into the equation. That is why you are hiring us: to sequence the songs in the best way possible.

How do you guys figure out how to mix what and when?

An experienced DJ fits the right music with the right people at the right time. Music must follow and lead the mood of your party and anticipate the variety of taste demanded by you and your guests. Cocktails and dinner suggest quiet music; pop, classical or jazz. Dancing requires a beat. Although we are equipped to play almost anything, we try to play whatever it takes to get your guests dancing. Unless it is an office party without spouses and dates, we start with a slow song to fill up the dance floor. Most people feel comfortable starting off with a slow song. Once we have enough people on the dance floor, we increase the speed gradually song by song and gauge the crowd. If the tempo seems too fast we either slow down gradually or revert to a very slow song and start over again. For office parties without spouses and dates we tend to keep the tempo medium to upbeat and avoid slow songs.

What kind of songs should I pick?

The most successful way to involve everyone in the dancing is to choose a range of hits from various decades based on the general age of your guests. Any unusual requests like ethnic or novelty dances (Hora, Jig, Alley Cat...) will be cleared with you first if you prefer. The same with line dances (Macarena, Electric Slide, Cha Cha Slide). Sort the song list by the rating column to pick songs that we know produce dancers! The higher the rating the more a song is

What if the selections are not working?

Very often a change in style or decade may be needed during the event. We encourage suggestions from you and your guests to help us gauge the flow of the party. We can change the music on the spot and hate seeing an empty dance floor!

What else can we do to ensure everyone has a great time and dance?

Last but not least: Please dance when the DJ opens up the dance floor! There is a direct correlation between the amount of dancing and the frequency of the host, guest of honor or bride on the dance floor. We've seen many weddings bomb at the site of a bride sitting it out or hanging out at the bar all night long .

The "Waitlist" defined:

A "waitlist" is a list of songs from our collection that you create with the PCDJToolsLT application for your upcoming event. After you select songs from our entire music library, we will be able to load your "waitlist" into our PCDJFX software and play your selections in the best order we can at your event. Return it to us no later than 2 weeks before the party.

You will need some PC skills to:

1. Download and install a free Windows application called PCDJTools LT.

2. Download 2 more files: catalogLT.mdb and a "copy tool" and save them to your PC.

3. Run PCDJ Tools LT. Create a "Waitlist".

4. Save your waitlist and email it back to us.

If this sounds overwhelming, we will try to walk you through it. Or, you can give up, stop here, and simply email us some comments like "Play some Disco, New Wave, Big Band, Motown and avoid line dances, gangsta rap and metal".

You are one of the first to use this application and we apologize for the complex installation. We want to make it easier. Please email any suggestions or questions you have. Our catalogLT file is scanned for viruses. Although it is a very straightforward process, we can't be held responsible for anything you do to your PC in the process.

Afterwards, if you want to supply us songs you see missing on our list, see the note at the bottom of this page.

PICKING SONGS

==============================

PLEASE DO NOT PRINT OUT THIS SONGLIST and mail it to us! It is too big!

Follow our QUICK EXAMPLE below or read the help file c:\Program Files\PCDJToolsLT\PCDJTools LT.pdf (needs Adobe Reader, click here if

you need Adobe Reader: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html)

QUICK EXAMPLE:

Click the "ALL" box (upper left) and the green box above it to show all songs.

Type the *stones under the word ARTIST and you should see all the Rolling Stones songs in our catalog. (We don't have all the Rolling Stones songs, just the ones that work.)

Clear the ARTIST field and type in under the TITLE field: *moon. You should see all songs with the word moon in the title.

Clear the TITLE field and CLICK on the word "Popular" in the left column. This should expand to reveal subfolders 2000Rock, 2000Urban, etc.

Click on "50s"

Click on the column header "artist" and you should see all of the 50s artists in alphabetical order.

Get it? Now that you know how to find a song or artist, you can start adding songs to your waitlist:

DO NOT ADD special songs like your first dance or dedications to your general waitlist. You can create another list with those songs called "Special Songs".

Find a song you want to add to your waitlist.

Add it to your waitlist by: double-clicking it, or highlighting it and hitting SPACEBAR.

Continue through the other folders.

To see the progress of your waitlist, click on the Waitlists folder on the left and then the folder with your last name.

VERY IMPORTANT: Do not type in the comment field beneath the Waitlist name on the upper left. Add comments by right-clicking only a few important songs like the first dance, parent dances, dedications, etc. We use this field to indicate the dance step. When you add the comment you delete our dance info.

FAQ:

Can't find a song?

Click the "ALL" box (upper left) and the green box above it. Type the * key as the first character in a title of artist. Example: type *love song for this result: "Space Age Love Song"

Still can't find a song? See Current Hits to find a song at Top Hits USA and email us the Artist, Song Title and disk number for the song. We probably have it on CD.

Still can't find a song? See the note at the bottom of this page.

Want to hear excerpts? Try www.itunes.com, www.amazon.com or any of the other music download sights.

What is a BPM? - It refers to the beats-per-minute (bpm). For example: 120.00 means 120 bpm which is 2 beats per second (think: Billie Jean).

How many songs? - Don't worry about the exact number since we can add or subtract based on your selections. Try to pick between 25 and 75 songs and no more than 200. We play appx. 20 songs per hour. Leave the rest to us and your guests. We encourage guest requests unless you prefer we don't. We only need a general idea. Try to mix in 10-25% slow songs unless you only want upbeat music.

Q: There are certain songs that we definitely want played during meals and during dancing. How do we indicate to you which ones we definitely want, as opposed to ones we're selecting but won't mind if they don't get played?

A: You can make separate waitlists. Use short titles with one of your last names. For example: Jones MustPlay, Jones Dinner, Jones Dancing, Jones Specials (first dance, parent dances, etc), Make sure you SAVE before you exit and all your waitlists will be saved to the same waitlist.mdb file. When you return the waitlist.mdb file to us, we will see all your waitlists.

If you want to supply us songs you see missing on our list, see the note at the bottom of this page.

See any typos or corrections? Please let us know.

Missing Songs! Supply us songs that are missing on our list:

IMPORTANT: Before you are convinced that we don't have your song, check the box for "All" at the top left of the PCDJToolsLT program. Then, click the green box to show all checked groups. Type in the field for title or artist. Remember, we usually eliminate the words "The" and "A" from the beginning of a song or band. ("Way You Look Tonight", not "The Way You Look Tonight"). You can always use the * to find songs (*wind reveals Summer Wind and Against the Wind...)

If you still can't find a song, the best ways to send us music for your reception in order of preference are:

1.     If you have the original song on a regular music CD (not MP3):

Best choice: Send us the original CD to the below address, we will return it at the event. We haven't lost one yet. We can rip it ourselves and make sure there are no incompatibilities.

Next choice: Burn a copy to a regular music CD, NOT in MP3 format. Leave the MP3's to us. Mail it to the below address.

2.    If your ONLY copy of the song is an MP3:

Check the quality of the MP3 by listening to it once in its entirety. If you have a choice, we prefer 160 kbps.

Email the MP3s to:

Send a reminder to us at our regular email address and be sure we respond:

If you are emailing between 2 and 10 MP3's, send them one at a time

If you are mailing more than 10 MP3's, burn them to a CDR and mail it to us at the below address.

3.    If your ONLY copy is an iTunes or "password based" file:

Burn it to a regular music CD and mail it to us. We can only play CDs, wave files and MP3's.
